The Common
While walking across Southampton Common, a large park in the
middle of the city, to meet Anne and her friends, I decided to take
a few pictures. It's a huge piece of land with woodland, water,
open grass and children's play areas. These pictures present only a
fraction of what is there.

Cool and shady, a path snakes
through the woods. |
|
Bees ply their trade in sunny flower-filled
clearings. |
|
|
Thistles bloom at the edge of a
large meadow. |
|
The shaded paths that cut through and go around
the common are favoured by walkers, joggers and cyclists. A very
few people like to cut across the grass despite the opressive
heat. |
|
|
Two old men and a dog relax
mid-walk. |
|
Blackberries stand up in the sunshine while a
lone thistle sits in the shade. Summer on the common is full of
colour. |
|
|
There has been graffitti here for as long as I
can remember, but it's never seemed so well-organised. There isn't
a spot that hasn't been decorated. |
|
|
After an exhausting time taking
pictures, nothing is better than a good meal and a cold drink with
friends. |
