Activities on a Frozen River
Pictures and Captions
I headed down to the Gapcheon river, as I had noticed it was
frozen a couple of days before. I assumed there would be kids
playing on the ice. I didn't expect anything so organised. People
were renting sleds and skates and having a whale of a time. It was
fascinating to watch and photograph, but eventually after 100
pictures the cold sent me scampering home. I had forgotten my
gloves, and photography with numb fingers isn't a whole lot of
fun.

Gapcheon River, although not
flowing as fast as it normally does, seems to be providing a lot
more entertainment than is usual. |

Two girls enjoy being pulled
along by one of their parents. |
|
It's possible to get a sled to
go pretty fast with just a pair of pointy sticks, as demonstrated
here. |
|
A beginner to skating finds it
enjoyable that at this moment she is not flat on her face. |

With a grin worthy of Terry
Thomas and no heed for the safety of his family, a father sends his
sled careening into his son's. |
|
Given time, boys will find
alternative uses for pointy sticks regardless of the potential cost
in lives. Oh the humanity! |
